About The American Legion
The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, war-time veterans organization, devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is a not-for-profit community-service organization which now numbers nearly 3 million members, men and women, in nearly 15,000 American Legion posts worldwide.
About Memorial Post 181
The American Legion Lake Stevens Memorial Post 181 was chartered on January 31, 1948. The first Commander was Harry M. Whitford, U.S. Marine Corps (WWII) and the first Adjutant was Ralph G. Brooks. Post 181 was also incorporated with the help of Tuver Schwarzmiller, U.S. Navy (WWII) and Frank Mobius, U.S. Navy (WWII).
