The American Legion Junior Shooting Sports Program is a three-part program that combines the Basic Marksmanship Course, Qualification Awards and Air Rifle Competition. During the past decade of this program’s continued fast growth, thousands of male and female junior shooters have participated, with a perfect safety record of no reported gun-related injuries.

Legion College

The American Legion National College enhances knowledge and appreciation of The American Legion as well as the core values and contributions of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, The Sons of The American Legion and many of their subordinate programs. The National College prepares young Legionnaires to hold leadership positions in posts, districts, counties, areas and departments through education, development, and motivation.

Legion Riders

The activities of The Legion Riders are limited only by the imagination of the members of the local Riders organizations, and many chapters have independently raised thousands of dollars for local children’s hospitals, schools, veterans’ homes, severely wounded servicemen and women, and American Legion scholarship programs. Since 2006, Riders have united nationally for The American Legion Legacy Run to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars each year for The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund, established for the children of those who given their lives on active duty defending our freedoms around the world.

Oratorical Contest

http://www.legion.org/programs/youthprograms/oratorical

The American Legion's National High School Oratorical Scholarship Program, a constitutional speech contest, aims to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. The contest includes the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship.

Scholarships

As an unfortunate consequence of Operation Iraqi Freedom and America's war on terror, many children of our active-duty military personnel are now members of single-parent families. In most cases, this also means their chances to attend college have greatly diminished. Children of military personnel killed on active duty are entitled to receive money toward a college education. But it's not enough. We are raising funds to ensure that higher education will be a reality for these families. Providing for the children our military personnel left behind is our civic duty. An education is a powerful way to show our thanks. That is why we have established the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund. But we need your help.

Scouting

http://www.legion.org/programs/youthprograms/scouting

Support for the Boy Scout movement came at The American Legion's first National Convention in 1919. Today, there are more than 2,500 Boy Scout units sponsored by Legion posts throughout the country. Supporting Boy Scout activities is natural for Legionnaires, who bring their service-learned skills and experiences as veterans to bear to help build character and positive traits in "Young America." Few other post activities generate more goodwill from the community.

Youth Partners

The American Legion stands for a strong America. There is no better way to bring this about than to work with the youth of our land in preparing them to meet the tasks they will face in the years to come. Through its many youth activities, The American Legion is playing the leading role in developing future citizens of America. Authorized by resolution, The American Legion works with and supports the following youth organizations.
